Shivaji-The Boss

Has 'Sivaji' lived up to expectations? Has the dream combination of Shankar-Rajini-AVM- A.R. Rahman done wonders?
It is difficult to pass a single line judgment on this powerful combination. We can say that the movie triggers mixed reaction.
Sivaji undoubtedly triumphs as an entertainer. As a film it lacks the gripping element, as Shankar throws the logic to the winds in his effort to project Rajini, the powerful star.
Let us look into it in detail. Sivaji is all about a struggle of an altruistic man despite all odds. Sivaji, a US returned Tamilian, wants to serve his motherland but the law and the lawmakers of the land along with some elements with vested interest make his life horrible.
He is snubbed and humiliated just because he wants to do good for the people. He tries his best, even takes recourse to bribing against his principles. But the odds are too strong that he fails miserably. The power mongers strip him off everything and throw him on the streets. Defeated and dejected Sivaji is left alone with empty hands. Literally.
But… he has got one rupee donated by his detractor. That is the only asset he has. He takes oath to turn the world with that one rupee coin. He tosses the coin. It rolls. It fells down… and from there on Sivaji rises…
There is little doubt that Shankar has cleverly used Rajinikanth’s star power to the core. The style, mannerisms, action sequences… everything has been finely worked out and executed with great success. The whole theater goes gaga every time Rajini puts a bubblegum into his mouth in his inimitable style. The ‘cool’ punch, the cooling glass style, and the tossing mannerism too make fans go crazy. Rajini and Vivek share the punch dialogues effectively.
Rajini’s appearance deserves special mention. Shankar and co has done wonders in making him look so young and fresh. The action sequences are fitting to his larger than life image. Shankar has many surprises in store for Rajini fans through out the movie.
